Community Service

Community Service

Middle School requires 25 Service hours every year for a total of 50 hours when a student graduates.

THIS YEAR'S HOURS ARE DUE MAY 1, 2018.

Students may acquire no more than 10 hours during the summer. Summer community service work must be pre-approved by Mrs. J.

10 HOURS of  IN-SCHOOL
These hours can be accrued by volunteering at school functions such as Fall Festival and Parents' Night Out. We encourage students to work at least 2 hours for the Smoothie Booth during Fall Festival.

15 HOURS of COMMUNITY SERVICE: pre-approved by Mrs. Johnson
These hours can be accrued by volunteering in our community for non-profit organizations, such as Manna Food Bank, Gulf Coast Arts Festival, and Project Greenshores.

These hours are not chaperoned by teachers - you will need to arrange a parent chaperone for the activity if required/desired by parents. NOTE: parents who work alongside their child may accumulate 1/2 time to be accrued with their child's total volunteer hours for that activity.

We encourage students to sign up in groups for outside activities.

REQUIRED SERVICE HOURS
Students participate in the Gulf Coast Arts Festival as part of their community service. This event is the first weekend in November; students are encouraged to sign up for more than the required two (2) hours at a booth in the children's section on Saturday or Sunday. The Children's Booths are so important to the GCAF, and adult volunteers are difficult to find. Students may accumulate most of their hours at that time.

SERVICE LOGS
Students will be issued Service Logs to record their hours. All hours must be signed off by the supervisor overseeing the activity.

The Community Service student group also posts community service opportunities
during the school year.
